The name itself highlights its specialization in serving soft, mouth-watering idlis, complemented by a wide array of chutneys, podis, and side dishes. MIS offers an extensive menu catering to every meal of the day—Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks, and Dinner. A must-try is our specialty drink, ‘Jigarthanda,’ a refreshing and iconic South Indian beverage. With a growing presence, MIS currently operates 26 restaurants in India, along with one restaurant each in Singapore and the UK. By the end of 2026, we aim to expand to 50 locations, bringing healthy, delicious, and fresh South Indian delicacies to food lovers worldwide.
- Our Story: Tradition Meets Innovation
Sixty-four years ago, the roots of MIS were planted with Murugan Coffee Nilayam in Madurai, India. Founded by Mr. Manoharan’s parents, this humble establishment initially served coffee and snacks. The turning point came when his mother introduced idlis, which became an instant hit. In 1991, Mr. Manoharan took over the business and began expanding the menu with beloved South Indian staples such as sambar, ghee Pongal, Sarkkarai Pongal, vada, and jigarthanda. Responding to customer demand, MIS launched its first Chennai outlet in 2003, which introduced the city to the brand’s signature flavors. Interestingly, the name ‘Murugan Idli Shop’, despite its simplicity, has become synonymous with authentic and high-quality South Indian cuisine.
